Chapter Eleven: Draw Near To God!

Chapter Eleven : Draw Near To God Seek God through prayer and meditation. “Draw nigh unto God and he will draw nigh unto you. Cleanse your hands and purify your heart.” James 4:8 “Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.” Hebrews 10:22 How do we draw near to God? As a suggestion here is a good start, turn off the T.V., separate yourself from all distractions, put off all thoughts of work, and the normal cares of the world, don’t worry about trouble, situations, work, family, etc., cast all of your burdens upon the Lord as it is written, Psalm 55:22, “Cast your burden upon the Lord and he shall sustain thee.” Do all to be free, again we read, “Lay aside every weight and the sin which easily besets you” Hebrews 12:1 Be free of all distractions, discouragements, disruptions, and set apart a time for just you and Jesus, this is how we draw near to God, as it is written, “Cleanse your hands and purify your heart, now when all distractions, disruptions, discouragements and the cares of this world have been cast at the feet of God, now begin to pray starting with seeking forgiveness, this is cleansing our hands and purifying our heart, seeking God for forgiveness, confessing our faults, and speaking God’s word into our lives. God’s forgiveness will cleanse our conscience and his word will wash our bodies, as it is written, “If we confess our faults unto the Lord, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 Just as it is refreshing to take a shower and be clean on a hot summer day when we have worked hard and the sweat poured, so it is even more refreshing to be cleansed from our sin! Freedom is refreshing! Like an ice cold drink of water on a hot summer day so is the forgiveness of God to our soul! Pure water, refreshing, as it is written, “Now are ye clean through the word that has been spoken unto you” John 15:3 Jesus is love! He loves you! The Power Of Love! "Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little." Luke 2:47 OUR CHALLENGE TODAY! How can we love much? There is a difference in power between love and like, between words and action, and between real and fake! It is the power of love like that which produces a lock on the heart that offers no freedom, it is the power of action that brings life to words, and it is the difference between real love and fake that determines the strength of friendship between us and others and God. God is real and to have real results in life we must be real too! We must learn love from the example that this woman shows to us in this chapter, not only washing with words, but with tears, and then drying the feet of Jesus with her hair, not only greeting each other with a friendly nod or handshake, but greeting each other with a holy kiss, and a brotherly or sisterly embrace, not only giving of our excess, but giving our all! When we love with all of our heart, then we shall be loved most, forgiven most, and blessed most! The difference between liking and loving is often the same difference between hot and cold, the difference between liking Jesus and loving Jesus, between believing Jesus in word, and following Jesus for life, between attending church once in a while and daily dying on the cross! The power of love is determined by this difference, whether weak or strong! The power of Jesus’ love for you can break any stronghold! Allow the love of God to do a miracle in you! Addiction Recovery is Recovery from Addiction! Why do we need to recover from our addictions? Because, our addiction has become destructive. They have gone too far and need to be dealt with! Recovery needs to become Warfare, a waging of war against that which has been trying to destroy us; it’s time to flip the script! It’s time to destroy addiction! The Bible tells us, “Be angry but sin not” Ephesians 4:26 Now it is not wrong to be angry, in fact it is right to be angry about our addiction, just look at the damage that it has caused, now get angry and fight back, fight back with Jesus on your side, you are not alone in this fight!
