Week Ten: God and Deliverance
As disciples of Christ we walk with God seeking to do his will. Sometimes as we travel we are put to extreme tests of our faith and often we feel as though we have been left alone. We pray and wait for God to answer, we are stretched to the limit and pressed on every side only to hear God sometimes say wait or sometimes say nothing at all! Jesus felt this also. He was put under extremely stressful situations, many people left his side and chose not to follow him anymore. When we are put to these extreme times of strees we seek deliverance. The Bible teaches us that deliverance belongs to God so for us to experience deliverance we must go to him. This week we will be looking at God and what he teaches us about deliverance. Deliverance belongs to the Lord and we will focus on why it is important to understand this.

Who did Jesus preach deliverance to?
Does the words of Jesus have the power to deliver us?
Jesus is the bondage breaker! We all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, but there is many who are stuck in their sin, who are addicted to sin, who struggle severely everyday to be set free and are not. This is called captivity! To be stuck in the chains that restrict our free movement and enjoyment of life. Jesus came to set the captive free! "The truth shall make you free" Jesus is that truth and so how powerful is the truth in the roll of deliverance? It is huge! We cannot be delivered from our captivity without receiving the truth into our heart. Prayer is just one of those truth's and many need to be taught as the Disciples were, how to pray.

Sometimes when we hear the word deliverance we automatically think "set free" but we think that we have to do the work. We love to help others in this process, but rarely know how to do this for ourselves, not to mention someone else. I know for myself, I have a hard time asking for help, I love to help others and rarely would miss the opportunity to assist another in deliverance, but who am I? Only God can deliver someone from their captivity, and this only when they desire freedom, I can't set myself free from bondage, so I should be careful not to think that I have any power to deliver another! It is a honorable desire to help others, but we must first consider the log in our own eye as Jesus has taught us. There is a process to deliverance and that process requires that we humble ourselves before God realizing and accepting that only he can deliver us and others. He can and he does! Here is one of the greatest examples recorded in history.
