The True Vine Discipleship Program

Discipleship II Week 2

 Jesus’ life (during his ministry)

Last week we discussed Jesus’ life before his ministry began. We learned how the devil reacts when there is a call on ones life and what we can do to avoid any traps that he may lay. We also learned that prior to our ministry we must be trained up in certain ways so that we may be better suited to deal with ministry life. This week we will see the beginning of Jesus’ ministry and what took place at the start to jump-start this. We will also see how his training became very relevant during the course of his three year ministry which began at the age of 30 around 29b.c and lasted up to 33b.c where Jesus was finally crucified. This week there are many teachings that we will visit and read about, and they will strengthen us in our ministry when we apply them. Once again thank you for participatiing in Discipleship II, we pray that these classes are a blessing to you. Let us take up from where we left off and that is at the beginning of Jesus' ministry.

Read John 2:1-11 what questions do you have after reading this?  _________________________________________________________

Answer the following questions:

After selecting his disciples how did Jesus begin his ministry?___________________________________________________________________

What happened that manifested God’s glory? ___________________________

Did this event solidify the Disciples belief in Jesus? ______________________

What was the importance of the six water pots? _________________________

What does the water symbolically represent? ___________________________

Jesus began His ministry with His first miracle, the changing of water into wine, why was it important that this miracle was done at the beginning of His ministry? It is important to have others that believe that God has called us to this work and it is a great help to us that our calling is backed up by proof such as a miracle of provision or healing, do you think that all callings and ministries will start this way? Why?

Read John 2:13-25 what questions do you have after reading this?

 ___________________________________________________________________

Answer the following questions:

After the wedding feast did Jesus begin to travel? _______________________

What religious event was taking place and what was happening in the temple at this time? ________________________________________________________

Is our Zeal for the things of God a good thing? ___________________________

What was happening between Jesus and the Jews? ____________________________________________________________________

So Jesus performed His first miracle and found Himself in the mix of hypocrits quickly after this. He traveled to Jerusalem and found in God's temple many that were buying and selling right at the entrance. Their disregard for things that are sacred angered Jesus and caused Him to drive out these workers of iniquity. Here we see that ministry is not only the working of miracles, but also taking a stand for righteousness even when it's not popular. Jesus in one day goes from Wow! to Woe! So can we, we may go from liked to disliked very quickly when we take a stand for righteousness! Now, we will see Jesus take on His teaching role.

Read John 3:1-21 what questions do you have after reading this?

Answer the following questions:

Who was Nicodemus? _______________________________________________

How did Nicodemus know that Jesus had come from God? ____________________________________________________________________

What was Jesus teaching Nicodemus? ____________________________________________________________________

Why did God send Jesus to the earth? __________________________________

What work was Jesus doing as a part of his ministry? _____________________

Nicodemus was one of them! One of those that were possible hypocrits, yet Jesus gave Him a chance, he didn't say what's the use or c'mon I have more important things to do than to deal with someone that thinks they know it all! Instaed He knows Nicodemus's curiosity and His heart. We can't assume that just because one person has given us trouble that all who are like them will do the same. In the end Jesus explained the Kingdom and it's requirements to Nicodemus and how it is the only way. Jesus knows all our needs and He will supply to us all that we need just as He did for Nicodemus. He is bread that nourishes our soul.

What was Jesus doing as a part of his ministry in this chapter? _____________________________________________________________________

The word Disciple is defined as "the learner" Jesus taught his followers as we are to teach others also. Not everyone will want to listen, but what God has done in us through Jesus Christ is not something that we are to keep to ourselves, a great part of why you have been chosen is because He will use you to do His work of teaching others. As the Bible teaches and is a fact of life "it is appointed unto man once to die and then the judgement, with this understanding of truth what matters is how we live our days and what we bring to Jesus when we meet Him. Will we meet Him in triumph or in sorrow? Jesus leads the way in which we should follow.
